Automotive supplier Magna announced that its FreeForm seat trim technology has attracted more customers.

Magna said that the seat trim technology will debut on the Cadillac XT5 in 2020, and will launch large SUVs, mid-size CUVs, sedans and all-electric SUVs together with other automakers-all of which are expected to arrive in 2022 At the dealership.

FreeForm provides a clean, sculpted and seamless sculpted surface with high seat concavity, which improves comfort and enhances cleaning capabilities. It provides a wide range of design possibilities for car studios and stylists to create unique interiors.

John Wyskiel, President of Magna Seating Systems, said at the press conference: “In view of the rapidly evolving mobile environment and the resulting transition to interior and in-car experience, car seat design has become an even more important consideration. ."

"We are seeing increasing demands from traditional customers and new entrants who seek to provide superior comfort and design features, create more'home' cabins, and use more environmentally friendly materials. FreeForm technology can play a role in all aspects, "He said.

FreeForm provides styling flexibility by achieving design details with a sharpness of 1 mm radius compared to the 25 mm (1 inch) radius of some traditional cutting and sewing operations. This provides car stylists with greater possibilities to design various shapes and forms, as well as clearer lines.

Due to the concavity of more than 100 mm (4 inches), the new seat trim technology improves the comfort of the back, which Magna said is almost impossible in traditional tailoring and sewing.

Coupled with cushions, this provides enhanced lower back support because it reduces fatigue and fretting of the spine.

In addition, FreeForm is made of foam laminate, and the air permeability of the moldable surface is four times that of similar molded decorative products, further improving the comfort of the seat.

FreeForm backboard seats contain up to 50% of polyol organic compounds, which are derived from recycled polyethylene terephthalate (a plastic polymer resin), and the seat surface contains up to 20% of biological raw materials. Renewable Material-so that the product as a whole is more sustainable.

The smooth surface of FreeForm allows faster and easier cleaning of the seat. Seat covers can also be removed for cleaning and routine maintenance, which makes them attractive for mobile scenarios such as ride sharing.

Magna also stated that the FreeForm rear panel provides a "soft-touch" surface with up to 4 inches of drawing capability. (102 mm), creating a lot of leg room.
